Course Overview:

Today’s world is abounding in changes and challenges, from the mega-trend of globalization to various unknowns of digital revolution. To keep ahead of the game and stay competitive among other players, organizations and business enterprises got no choice but to make changes accordingly, lots of which are really huge structural ones!

As a result, it’s of paramount importance for business executives in leadership role to sharpen their leadership skills, from merging multiple cultures, heartfelt engagement & motivation to 5E leadership principles, which will all help our participants to not only effectively manage but also successfully lead their teams via those “roller-coaster” rides one by one.

To this end, leadership takes not just talk, but also action and results!

This course will adopt an interactive approach combining both real-life cases and key theories, which will help participants to acquire highly practical skills easily in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will obtain a “Certificate of attendance”.

Course Synopsis:

Prof. James S. Tsien has over 40 years of experience with multinational corporations and repeated track records of leading global projects. The interesting variety of roles Prof. Tsien played, from top-level ones in banking and port / transportation sectors to those management posts for organisations across the globe, will lead us to discussion of leadership practices in true multi-national settings. As a popular speaker for different DBA, EMBA and MBA classes of a number of local universities, Prof. Tsien will bring inspiring leadership insights for the participants.

Apart from topics like Overcoming Cultural Differences, Walk the Talk, Commanding Respect as a “Fearless Leader”, Decisiveness towards Executive Decisions, Accessibility and Nepotism, Prof. Tsien will also probe into the fine line between “leadership” and “management”.

Mr. Sunny Wong’s leadership philosophy is very different from many of the others. His concept was once described by the HR Magazine (March 2008 Edition) as “Probably the Best Leadership in the World”. As a frequent speaker at different HR events, government authorities and commercial corporations, as well as various Master and Undergraduate classes from local and overseas universities, Mr. Wong will bring his 30 years’ experience of leading global business to conquer the China market and building a unique new culture across the company’s various business units with the participants.

An expert story teller, Mr. Wong will take you on different journeys through the ups and downs in expanding the company’s business and share with you how he became the first Chinese executive taking up the country CEO role in the Carlsberg world.

Through his real life case studies, you will gain insight into the challenges of leadership across diverse organizational cultures and practices, as well as the tactics you can employ to connect and influence the people around you.

Dr. Victor Ng has worked in the banking industry for 35 years, and was the key executive in handling the major M&A project of a Chinese state-owned enterprise with a reputable international US brand. Not only shared with Master class executives in China, he also delivered his leadership skills with many local corporate executives.

Dr. Ng will share with you his experience in leading cross-departmental teams and how to develop successful business leaders through 5Es from his eyes.

Trainer Biography:


Prof. James Tsien is an Independent Non-Executive Director of the Bank of Shanghai (Hong Kong) Limited, an Honorary Professor at the School of Business, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), and an Adjunct Professor at the Hang Seng Management College, Hong Kong.

He was the Senior Adviser of Hutchison Port Holdings Limited (HPH) from January 2014 to December 2015; and the Group Executive Director of HPH and the Managing Director of Hutchison Ports China Limited (HPCL) from March 1994 to December 2013. He was appointed to the boards of HPH (in 1996) and over 280 HPH group companies, of which, 52 are operating companies in 35 countries. His role as the Chief Executive of HPCL included 12 container ports and 16 operating companies, two of which he served as Chairman of the board. He also served as a Director of Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) from 1996 to 2013 and General Manager – Finance of International Terminals Limited (HIT) in March 1994.

Prof. Tsien served as Vice President and Director of Investment Management Services of Citibank, N.A., New York, assuming a wide variety of senior management positions in all three of the bank’s core businesses (corporate, investment and consumer) in Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.

Prof. Tsien graduated from Hong Kong Baptist College in 1973 and the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University, New York in 1981. Prof. Tsien is a fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, England and a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, England and Hong Kong. Prof. Tsien is frequently engaged in delivering lectures at various graduate schools of business in Hong Kong



Mr. Sunny Wong is the Executive Director of Tibet Water Resources Ltd., a listed company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He had been Chairman of Carlsberg Greater China and then senior advisor to Carlsberg Asia during September 2011 to November 2014.

Apart from the role as Chairman and CEO during the period from 2006 to 2014, Mr. Wong was also the chief of the M&A team. He set the strategic M&A plan for Carlsberg’s long-term development in China and led a team from identifying potential targets, negotiation, closing of deals to post-acquisition activities. The team has since 2002 successfully acquired 59 breweries in twelve provinces in China and increased the production plants from 1 to 60, with a total workforce up to 15,000.

Mr. Wong has a strong and successful background of more than 30 years’ experience in the China FMCG industry, of which more than 25 years’ experience was spent on the China beer market, for top international companies Carlsberg and Bass Brewers.

Mr. Wong graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University in 1978 and received his MBA degree from Bath University, UK in 2001. Mr. Wong has been actively delivering talks on various topics to the government, business institutions and universities.



Dr. Victor Ng is currently a Senior Vice President and Division Head of Banking Administration of of a global top 5 banks He is responsible to oversee the strategic initiatives like M&As, integrations and branch network expansion of the Bank. Since September 2006, Dr. Ng was appointed as the Executive to oversee the merger and acquisitions for a fewbanks and financial institutions. Subsequent to closing of the respective M&A deals, Dr. Ng assumed the Integration Executive role to integrate these individual corporations into one giant consolidated entity.

Dr. Ng started his career in banking as a Management Trainee in Sun Hong Kai Bank Ltd in 1981 (currently known as Fubon Bank (HK) Ltd). In October 1987, he joined “Security Pacific Asian Bank”, the predecessor to Bank of America (Asia) Bank as the Business Development Manager while being appointed as Head of the Consumer Business Center, the BA Tower Banking Center and the Centralized Consumer Credit Processing Department. Dr. Ng was also Residential Mortgage Product Manager and Mortgage Securitization Manager of the Bank.

Dr. Ng graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University and Master of Business Administration from the University of East Asia in Macau. He is also a professional graduate of Retail Bank Management of USA Consumer Bankers Association’s Graduate School at the University of Virginia, USA. Dr. Ng obtained his DBA with distinction Honor and was bestowed the Scholastic Award in 2013. Currently, he is an adjunct professor of a local University in Hong Kong teaching Part-time Master programs in China.



Ms. Joanna Kwok is the Director of Executive Development Centre, Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) where she acts as founder and key developer for the Centre, providing executive education.

Ms. Kwok is a seasoned professional with 30 years of work experience in the marketing, marcom, operational and training fields. She was the Director, Society Relations, AP of CFA Institute Asia Pacific Office, providing strategic development consultancy for over 20 societies in the region. She joined CFA Institute in 2002 as Director, Office & Event Administration.

Prior to joining CFA Institute, she held senior management positions at Esquel Group, Hong Kong Exporters’ Association, Hong Kong School of Motoring, ABB Asea Brown Boveri Group, Kodak, Edelman PR and CPL Exhibition. In addition, she has been part-time lecturers for about 10 years for a number of tertiary educational institutes

Ms. Kwok obtained her Master of Science in Financial Analysis from the University of Science and Technology of HK and Master of Business Administration from the University of Strathclyde of UK. She graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist University and is also a Chartered Marketer, Certified Marketing Professional, Certified Project Manager and Certified Risk Planner.
